AVIEMORE HALF MARATHON ROUTE - a truly ‘highland route’ but without the hills!

The Start (at a height of approx 1100 ft above sea level) passes through the Glenmore Forest and Loch Morlich with the Cairngorm Mountains setting a spectacular backdrop. Conditions are a mixture of good solid forest track, paths and tarmac roads; a normal good supportive running shoe is all that is required. The first 7 miles are forest tracks through areas of Glenmore Forest Park and Glenmore village and after crossing the road, another forest track takes you around Loch Morlich and onto the main road which continues on past Coylumbridge and Inverdruie. The route crosses the road by the fish farm and over the Spey River by the pedestrian footbridge.

The last short section takes you under the main Highland railway line, across Aviemore main street and then past the front off the Four Seasons Hotel to a welcome Finish line!!! (approx 720 ft above sea level).

10K ROUTE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the minimum age limits for each event?

Aviemore Half Marathon - aged 17 years or over
10K for All - aged 16 years or over

How accurate is the distance?

As the majority of the route is not on tarmac roads (but on excellent forest tracks!), it cannot be classified as ‘an accurately measured course’. The route has however been measured and checked as 13.1 miles by an official Scottish Athletics course measuring official.

Can I get dropped off at the Start by car?

No - all competitors must catch the free shuttle bus from Aviemore Highland Resort. Cars are not allowed access to the Badaguish Centre Start on Sunday morning.

Can a ‘non-race entered person’ run alongside a relative or friend who has entered the event?

Absolutely not. On Health and Safety grounds (as covered by the event risk assessment) this would have the potential to cause serious confusion and safety issues for event marshalls, organisers and safety teams and cannot be permitted under any circumstances.

Can people enter the events on race day?

No. All entries must be pre-entered.

If I can’t take part, can my entry be transfered to someone else?

No. All entries must be pre-entered.

Do I need all-terrain, off-road or studded running shoes?

No, normal, well-cushioned running shoes are more than adequate for our course

Where can I get more information about all the events and the Speyside Trust Badaguish Centre?

From the event programme sent to all competitors, from this website and our main website.

What is the Macdonald Mile Fun Run?

A 1-mile run (or jog, walk, or wander!) within the Aviemore Highland Resort, held at 2.30pm on Saturday, the day before the Aviemore Half Marathon. It attracts adults, children, families, wheelchair users, in fact everyone to do a ‘wee mile’ around the Highland Resort area. It’s £2 to enter and all entries are taken on the day at registration within the Academy Hotel in the Resort. All finishers receive a Macdonald Mile medal.
